Pedro Ruiz
Pedro Ruiz is a celebrated choreographer and dancer who was born and trained in Cuba, and later in Venezuela before coming to America. During his 21-year career with Ballet Hispanico as principal dancer Ruiz choreographed three critically acclaimed ballets for the company — Club Havana, Guajira and Cecilia. As a dancer Ruiz was distinguished with a Bessie Award, the New York Dance World’s highest honor.

“Pedro Ruiz: Coming Home”, the acclaimed documentary produced by PBS chronicling the Cuban-American choreographer’s return to his home country, was nominated for a NY Emmy Award. The film was also nominated for an Imagen Award in the Best Local Program category in June of 2011.
